An Oasis-Class Ship Perk Few Know About - My Experience Eating At Johnny Rockets For Breakfast

Last year, I went on a cruise for the first time on Oasis of The Seas. It was a surreal experience to step on a cruise ship that I have been fascinated by ever since I was a child. I did not think I would be cruising again for a while because Symphony of the Seas prices were astronomical. But towards the end of August, I found a great deal on the Halloween sailing and booked it immediately.

On Oasis-Class ships, Johnny Rockets is an upcharge for lunch and dinner but is complimentary for breakfast. If you want to see what I ate for lunch here, check out my Oasis post, which includes photos of their delicious burgers. On Symphony, I did not get a chance to eat there for lunch or dinner but did take advantage of the complimentary breakfast.

The Menu

This is a complimentary breakfast, so you can order as much as you want with no upcharge. The only upcharges are for the premium specials: the Rocket Loaded Breakfast Potato, Rocket Breakfast Burger, and the Maple Bacon Shake.

The Food

The veggie lovers breakfast scramble

This Scramble has eggs, green peppers, mushrooms, chopped onions, and tomatoes topped with shredded Wisconsin cheddar. It is served with potatoes and toast.

It was very salty and okay. I asked for sausage and received bacon, which was fine. The bacon was very good, but I did not see any cheese on my eggs. The potatoes were pretty good, but I think they should add on the menu that they would be fried potatoes, as I was under the impression they would be diner-style potato wedges.

Buttermilk Pancakes

Three classic buttermilk pancakes served with your choice of applewood-smoked bacon or sausage and maple syrup.

They tasted a bit better than the pancakes in the main dining room, but they still tasted like frozen, not freshly made.

Breakfast Sandwich

Fried egg and Wisconsin cheddar on toast or English muffin with applewood smoked bacon or grilled breakfast sausage.

Eggs “My Way”

It's served with potatoes, applewood-smoked bacon or sausage, and sourdough toast. You can choose from one or two large eggs; this photo shows the two large eggs.

The Service and Atomphshere

The service was not fast, but I think it was because they were swamped. This was our Nassau day; many wanted to eat and hurry off the ship to explore the port. It was also Halloween, and everyone was in a good mood.

The atmosphere is your typical diner atmosphere, but I found the seating tired and worn out. Symphony debuted in 2018, and at not even 10 years old, her interior is starting to show some wear and tear in some places, and Jonny Rockets is one of them. When I sailed on Oasis last year, the decor and seating were refreshed and are still in good condition, as Oasis underwent a Royal Amplification in 2019.

final thoughts

I am not a health nut, but this is not the healthiest way to start your day. It was very greasy, which messed with my stomach for the next couple of hours, and the food was also okay.

If you want a better selection, especially if you require healthier food, I recommend checking out the Solarium Bistro, the main dining room, or the Windjammer.

I LOVED the breakfast in the solarium. There were many options, but my favorite was the chicken sausage and the made-to-order omelet station. It was delicious.
